Barcelona City Council is publishing a new edition of the English version of the book Barcelonas, the anecdotal history of Barcelona written by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán. The first English translation was published in 1992, and now, in addition to the revised text, the reader will find a series of interesting and useful notes - added by Quim Aranda, also the author of the preface - that help you to navigate the text, which contains references that are sometimes rather too specific and circumstantial. No less noteworthy are Pau Gasol Valls’ splendid illustrations and a final epilogue by Mari Paz Balibrea, which Montalbán himself would have been delighted with, and that increase the book’s value and enhance its status as a classic. The volume also includes a prologue that the author wrote specifically for the English version of the work, where Montalbán was already raising new questions regarding the future of the metropolis. So this is an essential work for better enjoying, understanding, and truly appreciating Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia.
