The Sant Josep Oriol Festival has its poster for the 2023 edition!

Once again, the Sant Josep Oriol Festival has unveiled the poster for the upcoming edition of the festival, which takes place around 23 March in the Gòtic neighbourhood and features several different activities. The organisation is working to adapt the festivities to the pandemic and offer both in-person and virtual events.

The poster was revealed in a Youtube video showing all the posters that had been submitted. A total of twelve artists participated in the contest, submitting a total of fifteen entries.

This year’s winning poster was created by Germán García-Salmones and was chosen by the panel for its innovative composition featuring the gegants del Pi giant figures, the Lleó [Lion] and the Mulassa de Barcelona [Giant Mule of Barcelona]. In fact, these iconic figures become the image of the celebrations.

The Sant Josep Oriol festival is known for its unique traditions, from the Atracaments d’en Perot lo lladre, staged ‘robberies’ by the giant Perot the Thief, to the Sant Josep Oriol tableau, the Emmulassa’t mule dance, the Passejada dels Oriols parade of giant figures… and the popular chocolate coins, in honour of one of the miracles performed by this Barcelona saint.

The festival will take place from 18 to 26 March 2023. And starting 7 March, you can check out the exhibit at the Casa dels Entremesos that will display all the posters submitted for the contest.
