All the popular culture events for the 2021 Gràcia Festival

The programme for the Festa Major de Gràcia 2021 includes a whole host of popular culture events and others such as concerts, workshops for children and young people, guided visits, craft fairs and much more.

From 15 to 21 August, the streets of Vila de Gràcia will be bursting with activities to celebrate the 2021 Festa Major, or big annual festival, which has had to adapt to the health situation caused by Covid-19 and will be applying all the protocols currently in force to guarantee a safe and responsible festival.

The festival gets under way on Saturday, 14 August., with the traditional ‘Toc d’inici’, the start of the festival, featuring the Tabals and gralles [drums and flutes] and the Opening Speech, which will be delivered by the Chair of Òmnium Cultural and local Gracia resident, Jordi Cuixart i Navarro.

The festival will begin on the 15th with the mass and Matí de Festa Major. In addition to all the popular culture events, the committees of different streets have scheduled small-format activities taking place on the street and music performances where booking is required.

This year, there will be three new spaces where activities are being held (Plaça Joanic, C/ Pi i Margall and C/ Bailèn), where music performances and other shows will be taking place.

What’s more, fans of folk will have a special programme to enjoy, thanks to the collaboration with the Centre Artesà Tradicionàrius (CAT), with various performances being held in their facilities.

There will also be activities designed for and aimed specifically at people with different kinds of disabilities so they can enjoy an accessible festival with their families.

Other activities have been programmed to mark Barcelona’s status as World Capital of Sustainable Food. Highlights include the day event on 18 August in the Bailèn space with activities all day long on waste management, composting and good food, etc.

The Vila de Gràcia Library is also taking part in the festival and has scheduled various activities (stories, workshops, etc.) designed for all audiences. The Gràcia Fab Lab has also organised a workshop on customising clothes using sustainable digital manufacturing techniques.

Homage to Jordi Fàbregas and plaque dedicated to Francisca Rius

This edition of the festival will also feature two events: The tribute taking place on 18 August to Jordi Fàbregas, a leading musician and champion of traditional music with Catalan roots, who died in January; and the unveiling of the plaque dedicated to the artist Francisca Rius (1891-1967), on Carrer Milà i Fontanals.

Fairs

During the festival you will also be able to enjoy the  craft fairs and wine tasting sessions taking place on Passeig Sant Joan and in Plaça Virreina, and the fun fair in the Jardinets de Gràcia.
