Times for Christmas lights 2023

Barcelona’s Christmas lights will be switched on in the traditional celebration, to be held on 23 November at 6.30 pm. The illuminations will be in place until 6 January, during the same hours as in 2022: Sundays to Thursdays, from 5.30 pm to 10 pm, and Fridays and Saturdays, until 11 pm, with special hours for New Year’s Eve and Twelfth Night.

This year sees the section of Passeig de Sant Joan between Av. Vilanova and Gran Via get Christmas lighting for the first time ever, joining major city streets such as Via Laietana, C/ Balmes, Pl. Urquinaona, Pl. Catalunya and Av. Paral·lel.

Times for Christmas lights

  • Sundays to Thursdays, 5.30 pm to 10 pm
  • Fridays and Saturdays, 5.30 pm to 11 pm
  • 31 December and 5 January, 5.30 pm to 1 am

Approval for the Christmas lights was given through the Government Commission and maintains the times from 2022, which were reduced compared to 2021 to help save energy. The budget for the production, transport, installation, maintenance and dismantling of the Christmas lights is 1,915,267,89 euros. The calendar is conditioned by potential limits established on energy savings, in line with current regulations.
