World Poetry Day

Barcelona celebrates World Poetry Day

On 21 March, a number of municipal venues will host events devoted to verses and poems and the people who are passionate about writing and reading them.

Everyone knows that 23 April is World Book Day, but not as many people are aware that 21 March is World Poetry Day. In Barcelona that means that many public spaces, such as Arts Santa Mònica and different civic centres, will host poetry-focused events arranged by organizations like the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes, the Catalan Federation of Associations and various UNESCO Clubs. The day’s central event will be held at Arts Santa Mònica, with the participation of writers including Marc Granell and Enric Sòria, who will present their poems, read in different languages in the Max Cahner cloister.

Additionally, many of Barcelona’s Civic Centres will take part in the celebrations hosting live poetry reading events like Batecs poètics at the Josep M. Trias i Peitx Civic Centre and three sessions of the Entre Versos cycle at the Biblioteca Guinardó - Mercè Rodoreda on 21 March, 12 April and 15 May.
