The Teatre Goya hosts “The Dangerous Liaisons”, by Choderlos de Laclos

All the scandal and sensuality of the classic 18th-century French novel is transformed into a dramatized collage with actors interpreting rock, heavy metal, jazz and opera songs to the accompaniment of live music

Published in 1782, The Dangerous Liaisons is a famous epistolary novel expounding the perverse and licentious duel between two members of the French royal family of the 18th century, the Marchioness of Merteuil and the Viscount of Valmont. The text by Choderlos de Laclos is a savage criticism of French pre-revolutionary high society and has become a European literary classic full of eroticism, imagination and Machiavellian manoeuvrings.

On Wednesday the 11th of March the version dramatized by Madrid-born playwright Darío Facal opens in the Teatre Goya with a text adapted by himself and Javier L. Patiño that fuses dramatic interpretation with a rock, jazz and heavy metal soundtrack.

Carme Conesa, in the role of the Marchioness of Merteuil, and Edu Soto, as the Viscount of Valmont, play out their seduction games in this irreverent adaptation in which the characters, with the aid of live music, bring to the stage the love and sex scenes that pervade the original text.

The remainder of the cast features Iria del Río in the role of Madam de Tourvel, Mariano Estudillo, who also composed the music, as the gentleman Danceny, the surprising young actress Lucía Díez in the role of Cécile de Volanges, and Lola Manzano as Madame de Volanges.
