“Per sobre totes les coses” in the Teatre Gaudí

The Catalan production is a version of the musical “Bare: A Pop Opera” by the company Madam Teatre and can be seen throughout the month of August

Premiered in Los Angeles in 2000, Bare: A Pop Opera is a provocative, intense and passionate musical that tells the emotive story of a group of adolescents from a Catholic boarding school in the early 1990s who struggle to overcome problems of sexual identity, leading them to question their own values regarding education, freedom and religion.

The original pop opera, with lyrics by Jon Hartmere and music by Damon Intrabartolo, has been the subject of 100 different productions since its debut, including Off Broadway in New York and London’s West End as well as Sydney, Liverpool and Canada. The musical now arrives in Barcelona thanks to the efforts of Àgata Casanovas, Marc Gòmez, who translated the songs, and Marc Flynn and Anna Herebia, the founders of Madam Teatre.

Per sobre de totes les coses includes more than 30 musical numbers, with direction by Daniel Anglès and choreography by Óscar Reyes. Produced by the Teatre Gaudí Barcelona, the small-format musical features a score of actors and singers as well as the special collaboration of Ester Bartomeu, Eduard Doncos and Lucy Lummys and a five-piece live rock band under the direction of Oriol Padrós.

The musical can be seen throughout the remainder of July and the month of August in the Teatre Gaudí Barcelona. Tickets are priced at 24 euros. For more information, please consult the theatre website.
