For the sixth consecutive year, this peculiar musical festival will present performances by artists of all kinds in small venues in Barcelona and other towns around Catalonia.
The name curtcircuit (which means short circuit) has nothing to do with electricity, but rather refers to shortening the distance that separates the public from the artists. That means that the festival's concerts, featuring local folk and indie artists, are held in venues with limited capacity, both in the festival's home base of Barcelona, where performances are scheduled for venues like Apolo, Bikini and Sidecar, and around Catalonia in cities such as Lleida, Vic, L'Hospitalet and Mataró. The festival is kicking off now, on 16 February, and is set to conclude on 18 May with a concert by Amics de les Arts in the town of Salt.
The opening concert on 16 February features Mayte Martín, a veteran voice on the Catalan flamenco scene, who will be appearing on stage at Sala Apolo accompanied by Claudia Bardagí to play a heterodox mix of flamenco, folk song, poetry and boleros. The following concert is on February 22, at Luz de Gas, with Dani Flaco and Exili a Elba, while on 2 March the action moves to Bikini with Sigmund Wilder and SERCH. On 10 March the festival will head inland with a concert by Itaca Band in Vic.
