Liceu a la fresca

The Liceu is taking opera to the people

Five screens will be set up around Barcelona for the opera 'Manon Lescaut'.

Liceu a la fresca is an initiative by Barcelona’s Liceu opera house that aims to underline the idea that opera is a musical genre for everyone. For the fourth edition this year, they are setting up screens in over 300 towns around Spain, Portugal, Italy, France and Andorra for the simultaneous viewing of a recording of the opera 'Manon Lescaut'. In that way, spectators will be able to enjoy the performance as if they were actually at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. In Barcelona you can see the opera in five different locations. A big screen will be set up at Arc de Triomf, in Nou Barris, at Palau Robert, in Plaça Salvador Seguí and at the Sant Martí civic centre.

The screening is scheduled to take place at 10pm on 16 July, when the opera, starring Liudmyla Monastyrska and Gregory Kunde, under the baton of Emmanuel Villaume, will begin. Although admission is free, there are two locations that require an invitation. The first is Arc de Triomf, where TV3 will be broadcasting live. The other place where invitations will be needed is Nou Barris.
