Giant figures on parade

Sant Antoni is celebrating its neighbourhood festival

The festival, which will run until 20 January, features activities for all tastes, with a special focus on popular culture.

You don’t need to wait for the warm weather in order to experience an authentic Barcelona neighbourhood festival. The first celebration on the city’s yearly calendar is the Sant Antoni neighbourhood festival, which began on 11 January but is scheduled to continue until Sunday 20th.

Given that the schedule of activities is really extensive, we recommend that you check out the festival programme, but below we will make some suggestions that encompass both modern approaches and traditional fixtures. Among the latter are some interesting expressions of Catalan folklore, such as giant-figure parades, running fire parades and the Tres Tombs cavalcade with its horse drawn carriages and riders parading around the streets of the neighbourhood. The parade is scheduled to depart from the crossroads of Carrer de Calàbria and Avinguda Paral·lel at 10.30 am on Saturday 19 January and will end up in Plaça Sant Jaume. The Sant Antoni neighbourhood festival also offers plenty of activities for children, along with live music, dancing, plays and gastronomic events.
