“Round About Midnight” returns to the Teatre Coliseum
The 3rd edition of the music festival features up-close jazz, soul and pop concerts by artists the likes of Avishai Cohen Trio, Diane Reeves, Imany and The Original Blues Brothers Band
From the 20th of March to the 23rd of May the Teatre Coliseum will once again host the Round About Midnight festival, a festival that offers a series of up-close jazz, soul, world music and pop concerts beginning at 11 at night. As is customary, this, the 3rd edition of the festival, will feature a selection of both upcoming and consolidated artists.
The Avishai Cohen Trio will inaugurate the festival on the 20th of March with a concert-presentation of their latest release, From Darkness. The band, which features bassist Cohen accompanied by pianist Nitai Hershkovits and drummer Daniel Dor, offer a fusion of jazz and traditional Sephardi music. The 18th of April will see the turn of Tunisian jazz singer and musician Dhafer Youssef, who was obliged to clandestinely immerse himself in this musical genre throughout his adolescence.
On the 2nd of May the Teatre Coliseum will host a performance by Jane Monheit, who will present her 9th studio release, The Heart of the Matter. The North American artist is one of the more renovating voices in the world of jazz, with a repertoire that includes hits from musicals and contemporary pop. Mid-month, on the 15th of May, will be the turn of one of the most eagerly-awaited artists in the series, Diane Reeves, who returns to Barcelona with a repertoire that fuses jazz with covers of songs by Bob Marley, Fleetwood Mac, Marvin Gaye and Ani Di Franco.
Spectators on the 16th of May will be treated to a performance by Imany, an artist strongly influenced by the likes of Billie Holliday, Nina Simone and Tracy Chapman, and who returns to Barcelona with a new acoustic set two years after her performance in the Palau de la Música Catalana. Finally, on the 23rd of May, evergreens The Original Blues Brothers Band will close the festival with a selection of danceable, sing-along classics in traditional pop-soul fashion. Regulars on the former North American television comedy show Saturday Night Live, of which the late John Belushi was a founder member, the current formation continues to delight audiences with their powerful live performances.
