Romanesque Barcelona

A tour of early medieval Barcelona

Why is it so difficult to find Roman remains in Barcelona? Why does it seem as though their influence has disappeared from our city? It is now possible to take a tour of Barcelona that sheds some light on our city’s early medieval history.

Throughout the period in question Barcelona was heavily influenced by the process of feudalism and the upsurge in maritime trade, both of which led to its establishment as a political, religious and commercial focal point. While life inside the city walls became increasingly ennobled, slums and “new towns” proliferated on the outside.

This Romanesque Barcelona tour pays a visit to the earldom that was Barcelona and reveals some of the more unique and secluded remains of an era that was later to be overshadowed by the magnificence of the Gothic period. The itinerary includes locations such as the Sant Pau del Camp, Sant Pere de les Puel·les and Santa Llúcia monasteries and the Bernat Marcús chapel.

A number of tours have been planned for the coming months, the next outing being the 3rd of November. For reservations, click here.
