Qui Bones Obres Farà at TNC

This play by Pep Tosar is inspired by Chekhov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard’

'The Cherry Orchard' was the last play that Anton Chekhov wrote, and was premiered at the Moscow Art Theatre on the 17th of January 1904 in a production diredcted by Konstantín Stanislavski. Although Chekhov intended the play to be a comedy, and it does indeed contain many comic elements, insisted on directing it as a tragedy. All subsequent directors have had to tackle this dual approach to a play that has become a literary classic.

Chekhov’s work provides the inspiration for Pep Tosar’s new play 'Qui bones obres farà', in which a theatre company is forced to leave the theatre where they have worked for the last 40 years because the debts they have run up make it impossible to continue there. They plan to mark their farewell with a performance of Chekhov’s ‘The Seagull’, the work that they had debuted with 40 years earlier.
