Primavera Sound: Europe’s greatest indie music festival

Once again, Barcelona’s Forum complex is set to become a meeting place for the leading figures in modern music.

Year after year, Primavera Sound just gets bigger and bigger and more and more ambitious. With over150, 000 participants, it’s clearly the biggest festival in Barcelona, but there’s more to it than that. The lineup is a list of the must-see artists currently working in the fields of indie rock, modern pop and electronic dance music. This year, the action will focus on the Forum from 30 May to 3 June, with a free opening day featuring Belle & Sebastian, Javiera Mena, Spiritualized and Wolf Parade, among others at different venues, and a parallel program at Sala Apolo. And, after the three main days of the festival, from 31 May to 2 June, thing will come to a close at Sala Apolo with a concert featuring bands like Ariel Pink, Rhye and Fermin Muguruza with The Suicide of Western Culture. The same venue will, fittingly, be where everything begins on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 May with the first warm-up gigs.

So, let’s focus on the main part of the programme, which features Björk, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Kelela , Fever Ray, Nils Frahm, Father John Misty, Migos, Haim, The National, Shellac, Lorde, Jane Birkin, Arctic Monkeys, Lykke Li, Slowdive ... And that’s just a snippet from a long list of talented musicians. And don’t forget the festival’s city-wide complementary activities such as the Primavera Pro professional fair.
