Premiere of "Consejos de un discípulo de Morrison a un fanático de Joyce" (Advice from a Morrison Disciple to a Joyce Fanatic), in the Teatre Tantarantana

The play is a theatrical version of Roberto Bolaño’s first published novel, co-written with A. G. Porta

Published in 1984 following rejection by numerous publishers, Consejos de un discípulo de Morrison a un fanático de Joyce (Advice from a Morrison Disciple to a Joyce Fanatic) tells the romantic-crime story of two young people over the course of a summer in Barcelona in the 80s.

Ángel Ros (Nao Albert), a twenty-nine-year-old unsuccessful Catalan author and cinephile, meets a twenty-two-year-old Latin American girl, Ana Ríos Ricardi (Claudia Benito) at a concert given by the tropical music orchestra in which he occasionally plays. The two begin a romantic relationship which leads them into a spiral of criminal activities. The murder of the old woman who Ana looks after is followed by a series of bank robberies which leave a trail of bloodshed behind them.

Much akin to a modern Bonnie and Clyde hopped-up on speed, the couple take refuge in safe houses, where Ángel reflects on his unfinished literary piece, Cant de Dedalus anunciant fi, inspired by the writings of James Joyce. The text and the dialogs between the protagonists are supplemented with Ana’s telephone calls to her mother, letters Ángel writes to his mother, and flashbacks depicting the couple’s lives before their descent into crime.

The play, adapted and directed by Fèlix Pons and Arsenic Arts Studio, can be seen in the Teatre Tantarantana from the 13th to the 30th of March, with the exception of Thursday the 27th.
