It’s time for the second edition of the Som Cultura Popular forum

The event aims to provide a place for different groups of people to exchange opinions and ideas.

From 25 to 28 January, Fabra i Coats - Creation Factory and the Sant Andreu neighbourhood will host four days of performances, debates, workshops, exhibitions, conferences, fairs and, ultimately, the exchange of ideas between diverse movers and shakers in the field of popular culture. This will be the second edition of the Som Cultura Popular forum, which, in the words of its organizers, "aims to allow for a first person experience of popular culture, present it to our closest circles and review its theoretical background". Entities, associations, academics, researchers and the general public are all invited to take part.

The forum is divided into three main sections: education and popular culture; popular culture and intangible cultural heritage; and popular culture and the processes of social change. A number of spaces from the first edition, which saw 13,000 participants, will be back again, including the Nomadic Museum. There will also be fairs relating to the worlds of games and toys, publishing, dance workshops and parades. Debates and talks will also play an important role in the forum and among the featured topics are traditional instruments at schools, museums as a service for citizens, and the youtuber in popular culture. In short, the forum will offer four very intense days with activities for the whole family.

The forum is organized by the Popular Culture Service of Barcelona City Council and the General Directorate of Popular Culture and Cultural Associations of the Generalitat of Catalonia, with the collaboration of the Ethnological Museum of Cultures of the World of Barcelona, the Ateneus de Catalunya Federation, the Association for the Dissemination of Folklore and the Association of Catalan Cultural Associations.
