The OBC and Broadway

The Barcelona Symphony and Catalonia National Orchestra will be offering performances of musical theatre classics on the 11th and 12th of January

Many purists will not admit it, but opera and musicals, be they theatrical or on film, have much in common. Both are basically staged narrations in which the various characters reveal the plotline with the aid of music and voice.

The Barcelona Symphony and Catalonia National Orchestra (OBC) will have no qualms about this purist division during the second weekend of the year in L’Auditori, when they will perform a selection of classics taken from musicals. On the evening of Saturday the 11th and the night of Sunday the 12th the venue on carrer Lepant will play host to an inspiring performance which will also include singers from London’s West End.

Deborah Myers, Louisa Lydell, Ian Virgo, John Addison and Adrian der Gregorian will lend their voices to a repertoire based around five illustrious names, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Claude-Michel Schonberg, which can only result in a festival of popular songs from musicals such as Kiss Me Kate, West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and Evita, all of which, without a doubt, from part of our collective musical memory.
