Ten days of intense activity at the Sarrià neighbourhood festival

The battle between Vicençs and Rosers and a cart parade along the streets of the old quarter are among the attractions of the fiesta.

The neighbourhood of Sarrià is all set to begin its neighbourhood festival, which is set to run from 29 September to 8 October with a programme chock a block with activities for all types of public.

The festival will feature parades, live music, sporting events, popular singing, dances, activities for kids and open air feasts and the residents of the neighbourhood will decorate their balconies especially for the occasion, making simply strolling around the area a treat. Things kick off officially with the opening speech, which will be given on Friday 29 September at 8pm at Plaça del Consell de la Vila, though it's not until the last day, 8 October, that the most widely awaited event in the celebrations is set to take place in Carrer Major de Sarrià. That's when carts, built by the neighbours, take to the streets at 12.30pm in a kind of wacky races parade. One of the most singular aspects of the festival is the so-called battle for Sarrià. The idea is that you join one of the teams of the neighbourhood – either the Vicençs or the Rosers, and, during the ten days of the festival, undergo a series of trials, including field games and a sack race. The team gains the most points is declared the winner.
