Miguel de Cervantes: Journeys, Dreams & Utopias at L'Auditori

This programme commemorates the 400th anniversary of the death of one of the most celebrated writers in the Spanish language.

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was one of the most important writers in history and his novel Don Quijote is considered to be an icon of world literature and has inspired film adaptations that have modified our way of understanding the story, especially in the Spanish and English speaking worlds. As a tribute to this literary giant, the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins currently being minted in Spain bear his image and Barcelona’s L’Auditori concert hall is staging this musical fresco on the 22nd of April at 8.30pm, illustrated with music from Cervantes' travels, the events of his time and texts from his literary works.

Featuring La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Hespèrion XXI and Jordi Savall, who will be conducting and playing the soprano viola, this performance presents the dreams and utopian visions from a golden age that recreate the soundtrack to Don Quijote de la Mancha.
