Barcelona celebrates Mexico in defence of human rights

A series of celebrations, exhibitions and conferences will take place in Barcelona over the coming weeks.

From 14 September to 4 November, the Festival Susurros del México Olvidado will bring to Barcelona a multidisciplinary programme with the aim of promoting the defence of human rights in Mexico and in Spain. Organised by Taula per Mèxic, among the activities planned are a number of exhibitions, such as Huellas de la memoria, a moving display of 80 pairs of shoes that correspond to the people who went missing in Mexico from 1969 to 2016, which will be at Convent de Sant Agustí from 14 to 29 September. Another of the exhibitions in the programme, in this case at l'Espai 10 from 5 to 18 October, is Zonas Fronterizas: an artistic exploration of the concepts of borders and the conflicts they generate.

Meanwhile, the cycle Diálogos Susurros del México Olvidado will take conferences and talks to the Convent de Sant Agustí that will tackle the issue of the human rights crisis in Mexico on 29 September, 18 and 19 October and 2 November. The latter date will also see a floral offering in memory of Miroslava Breach and Javier Valdez Cárdenas, two journalists who were murdered in Mexico.

The atmosphere of the programme will be more festive in nature at Poble Espanyol on 16 and 17 September with Barcelona Vive México. Concerts, dances, mariachis, parades with Mexican products, gastronomy and other activities will be on offer in an event that attracted over 20,000 people last year.
