Jordi Savall and El So Original, in L’Auditori

On the 7th of May, the Igualada-born musician and composer will direct “The Israelites in the Desert”, by Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach

On the 7th of May, beginning at 9 pm, instrumentalist, composer and director, Jordi Savall, one of the principal architects of the current re-evaluation of historical music, will present, in conjunction with El So Original (The Original Sound), a performance of the oratory The Israelites in the Desert. This extraordinary, little-known piece was composed by Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach, the fifth son of Johann Sebastian Bach, in 1769, and its naturalistic, evocative sonority heralded the composer’s entry in to the music scene of Hamburg at the time.

The piece is interpreted by the choral group La Capella Reial de Catalunya, the period instrument orchestra, Le Concert des Nations, concertmaster, Manfredo Kraemer, and the competition finalists from the 4th edition of the Academy for Professional Training, Research and Musical Performance.

Born in 1951 in Igualada, the musical career of Jordi Savall has been one of the principal driving forces behind the rebirth of the viol, or viola da gamba, and ancient music from Europe, the New World and the Mediterranean. Savall performs some 140 concerts a year, has participated in more than 200 recordings and has been distinguished with numerous awards and mentions throughout the world. He also played on the soundtracks for the films of Jacques Rivette (Top Secret, among others) and Alain Corneau (Tous les Matins du Monde).
