An itinerary for exploring Barcelona’s 18th century taverns and inns

“Taverns and Inns in Barcelona 1700” is the name of this nighttime itinerary

The Born Centre Cultural is still heavily committed to its role as a hub for research into the Barcelona of in and around the iconic year 1714. A new nighttime guided itinerary is being prepared that puts the accent on the taverns and inns in the city at the beginning of the 18th century with the name Taverns and inns of Barcelona 1700 , which focuses especially on the city as a centre for services.

The itinerary traces the transformation of the city from a manufacturing hub to a commercial centre during the final years of the 18th century during which Barcelona became a place for the exchange of goods whose success depended, in a large part, on its port and on an increase in land based commerce. The resulting increase in the transit of people generated the need to create facilities for accommodation and leisure which was exploited by a wide range of establishments.

This itinerary includes visits to different establishments dating from that period that are haunted by the memories of historical characters and anecdotes. The tour also highlights the importance of the sale and trade in spirits during that period in the city’s history.
