World Music Day in Barcelona

This yearly celebration features concerts for everyone.

We all know that Barcelona has music scenes for all kinds of tastes. Now, World Music Day is approaching and many of the city’s organizations, companies and collectives are preparing concerts and parties for 21 June.

Fnac will fill the Poble Espanyol with Catalan artists on 21 June for a free open-air celebration called Fnac Live. There, you’ll have the chance to see Mishima (with their new album ‘Ara i res’), El Petit de Cal Eril (presenting 'Δ'), Cala Vento and Nuria Graham.

Classical music is also on the agenda and Palau Güell is set to host an opera with a lot of history: 'Schiava e Regina' by Lluïsa Casagemas. This was the exact opera that was scheduled when, on 7 November 1893, there was an anarchist bombing at the Liceu. If it had actually been premiered then, it would have been the first opera written by a woman in the nineteenth century to play at a major European opera house. The performance will take place on 21 June at 8.30pm and tickets cost €20.

Finally, the Fabra i Coats Creation Factory is putting on a free showcase of musical projects from the District of Sant Andreu. On stage after 5pm on 21 June will be Afikemet, Blood Quartet, Blueroomess, Luis Tabuenca, Messengers College and The Burning Shore.
