El fosar del Castell de Montjuïc

Plenty to do at Montjuïc Castle in August

There are daily visits in Catalan, Spanish and English, as well as workshops for families and exhibitions

Montjuïc Castle has a long history and it offers insights into the history of both the mountain and the city of Barcelona. It also offers fantastic views of the city and beyond.  In August you have the possibility of joining a guided visit to the castle, which, under the title Viu el Castell offers daily visits in the morning and the afternoon in Catalan, Spanish and English. The visit lasts around an hour and a half and is recommended for people over the age of 12. During the visit, you will explore the origins of the castle, the reason for its name and how the castle played an important role in various wars and also served as a military museum. Currently, it is run by the Barcelona city council. To ensure a place on the visit, pre-book either by phone on 93 256 44 40 or by email at reservescastellmontjuic@bcn.cat.

And there are plenty of other ways on offer of getting to know the castle better. At weekends and on public holidays, you can take part in the family oriented activity Imaginem el Castell, an entertaining way of exploring the past, present and future of the building.

And when you visit the castle, don’t miss its exhibitions: both the permanent exhibition on the history of the castle and the small-format The mind behind the Montjuïc landscape, which pays tribute to the figure and the work of Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, the French engineer and landscape designer who was responsible for the creation of many of the parks and gardens on Montjuïc for the 1929 International Exposition.
