The 'cantaora' Mariola Membrives

The Mas i Mas Festival is filling the summer with sounds and shows

A variety of styles marks the 15th edition of the festival which runs from 28 July to 3 September.

A concert by Imany at Palau de la Música on 28 July is set to open the 15th edition of the San Miguel Mas i Mas Festival. Until 3 September, 200 performances in a wide variety of styles will take place in different venues in the city, also including Sala Jamboree, Tablao Tarantos, El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria, Club Moog and Teatre Grec.

The first concert at Teatre Grec will feature pianist Chano Domínguez and cantaora Mariola Membrives on Friday 4 August. Their appearance will be followed by Broda Bross presenting the dance and musical spectacle Concierto Concepto on 5 August. Only twenty-four hours later it will be time for some drama with a monologue featuring the actor Lluís Soler, who will perform El comte Arnau by Josep Maria de Sagarra. Another date at the same venue is on 8 August when The Gospel Viu Choir will be performing their latest show Reload. Eva Yerbabuena, one the most important choreographers and dancers in contemporary flamenco will present Apariencias on Thursday 10 August, followed the next day by the pop group Morgan. The Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra , accompanied by Bora Dugic, will be playing the same venue on 12 August.

Let’s take a leap now to 22 August, when Teatre Grec will be hosting Nit de Tango with singer Roger and the Escalandrum sextet. Only two days later, it will be time for a concert version of the musical Rent, followed by magic with Mag Lari on 26 August. Singer, trumpet player and saxophonist Andrea Motis will be playing along with top level jazz musicians on Sunday 27 August, while, on the 29th, the veteran Spanish singer-songwriter Paco Ibáñez will be presenting his Mediterráneo.

But there’s even more to come, including gala Ibstage performances featuring a mixture of young promises and 16 consolidated figures from the world of dance and rock rhythms with Mambo Jambo in the last gig of the festival on 3 September.

Mario Biondi, Ignasi Terraza & Bert Van den Brink, Ernie Watts, Uri Caine, Karime Amaya, and Joakim i Mike Dred & Mark Archer are just some of the other names in the festival. Check out the programme here.
