A scene from 'Douar' by Cie Accrorap

Cie Accrorap: hip hop on stage at the Grec Festival

Two pieces by Wajdi Mouawad and one by La Tristura are among the highlights of the coming weeks at the festival.

The Grec Festival is already approaching its final stretch it’s doing so with a number of top level performances for all tastes. One of the highlights of the upcoming days is the visit of the French company Accrorap, headed by artistic director, dancer and choreographer Kader Attou. The company will take to the stages of the Mercat de les Flors on 24 and 25 July with their new show Douar, starring mainly Algerian dancers who use movement to tell us about their dreams, exiles and migrations. Founded in 1989, Cie Accrora’s essence includes a mixture of cultures and a humanist background, inspired by the potent French hip-hop scene and by the world of the circus.

Lebanese playwright Wajdi Mouawad will present two projects at the festival. One is titled Inflammation du verbe vivre (Des mourants) and is a theatrical performance that takes the form of a movie. During the screening, the projection interacts constantly with the stage, on which Mouawad himself crosses desolate landscapes and travels to infernal worlds that represent present-day Greece. To see it head for Teatre Lliure at Montjuïc on 21 and 22 July at 7.00pm. On the same days and on the same stage, but at 10pm, Mouwad will present the second part of his two-part opus. In this case, Les Larmes d'OEdipe (Des mourants) is a poetic oratory based on Oedipus at Colonus.

Finally, Cine by La Tristura focuses on the issue of children who were stolen from their parents in Spain – there are calculated to have been some 300,000 cases between the end of the Spanish Civil War and the 1980s. This work is written and directed by Itsaso Arana and  Celso Giménez and can be seen on 22 and 23 July at Mercat de les Flors.
