An ode to the curve

A new temporary exhibition at the Barcelona Design Museum focuses on furniture made from beech and rattan.

A new temporary exhibition at the Barcelona Design Museum will open on 12 October with a focus on furniture with curved shapes made out of beech and rattan. Titled The magic curve: beech and rattan furniture, the exhibition is curated by Julio Vives Chillida and Rossend Casanova, who have divided the in nine sections to explain, respectively, that the curve multiplies, fits, continues, sustains, builds , protects, dynamizes, simplifies, shows and hides.

Visitors to the exhibition, which features furniture from the museum's own collection, will find pieces from the present century, but also from the late 19th century, when curved wooden furniture began to expand throughout Europe. In Spain, the city of Valencia in particular became a major manufacturing centre.

The exhibition can be seen until 18 November. Additional information is available at the following link.
