Contemporary Romanian Cinema at the Filmoteca

Six films that offer a better understanding of a country haunted by its past.

The 6th Annual Cycle of Romanian cinema consists of six films that offer viewers of a way of obtaining a better understanding of a country that is still haunted by its past. It’s a country that expresses itself through the struggle of the individual with his or her private conscience, with the social and religious prejudices of a particular era, with the repressive reality of a totalitarian regime and with anything that seeks to limit his or her freedom.

This cycle is organised in coordination with the Romanian Cultural Institute and interested viewers are still in time to catch an animated docudrama on the life of Adam Jacek Winkler, a Polish refugee in Paris whose existence is guided by his desire to change the world, and the story of Larisa, a teenager with a complicated life in a small coastal town. You’ll find a list of the films you can still see at the following link.
