Cinema and solidarity in the open air

The Cinema Refugi cycle is set to take films to different venues around the city

A cycle designed to use cross-border cinema to explore the terrible humanitarian emergency facing the planet right now. The Cinema Refugi cycle will call in at different neighbourhoods around the city to appeal to the public’s commitment to people and displaced refugees. During the month of July, we will see different films that embrace the values of peace, solidarity, coexistence and multiculturalism. All screenings are free and will include a debate.

Among the films that await us over the coming weeks are America America by Elia Kazan (La Sagrera, Plaça Masadas, July 21). A 1963 film that earned four Oscar nominations, it tells the story of the journey of Stavros, a young Greek man who leaves everything behind in search of his dream of living in the United States. The other session scheduled for July features the film Return to Homs by Talal Derk (Sants, Passatge Fructuós Gelabert, July 28), a documentary that tells the struggle of a Syrian citizen who risks everything to demand freedom in the context of a war.
