“Catalonia in Venice. SINGULARITY”, the new exhibition at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge

The exhibition is the work of film-maker Albert Serra and represented Catalonia at the 56th Venice Biennale.

Following its success in Venice, La Virreina Centre de la Imatge presents the exhibition entitled Catalunya in Venice. SINGULARITY, the work of film director and producer Albert Serra. Promoted by the Institut Ramon Llull and organised by Chus Martínez, the exhibition is a large audiovisual installation screening a film in which Serra focuses on the relationship between humanity and technology.

Catalonia in Venice. SINGULARITY represents the emergence of the language of cinema in the contemporary art world. The exhibition that was shown in Venice has been adapted to the La Virreina Centre de la Imatge space, adding three screens to the five of the original installation.

Albert Serra's work leads the spectator through over 13 hours of film, divided over the various rooms in La Virreina. Scenes with dialogue and with characters who take us into an exhibition that speaks of the now, of the abandonment of complexity, of the aspirations of factions and individuals, and of the absence of intelligence in relationships with others and in the present relationship with cultures, with art, with rigour as a future synonym of beauty.

This exhibition is the second project that La Virreina Centre de la Imatge has hosted after its presentation at the Venice Biennale. In 2014, visitors could see the 25% Catalonia at Venice exhibition at La Virreina.
