Catalan actresses of the twentieth century in the Palau Robert

Until March 27 we can see the great protagonists of cultural change and the time of splendor and modernity of Catalan dramaturgy

Women have played a key role in the history of Catalan theater. Actrius catalanes del segle XX is an exhibition that pays tribute to the actresses, and claims its work in our country over the last century.

Big names come immediately to mind: Margarita Xirgu, Mary Santpere, Matilde Almendros, Asunción Balaguer, Montserrat Carulla, Nuria Espert, Rosa Novell, Emma Vilarasau,

among many others. All figures that we have in mind and remember well, for the roles they have played and the media attention they have received as public figures.
The exhibition reflects the prominent role of the female gender in the theater as in other areas, where women exceeded the condition of mannequin or attractive poster, to achieve all the papers and roles imaginable. This situation of change became a contemporary phenomenon and led to profound cultural transformations, with the result of a moment of glory for the drama and theater of the country.

The exhibition, organized by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Institut del Teatre, with Joan Casas y Joaquim Noguero as commissioners, has parallel activities. During the six months  of the exhibition, the Institut del Teatre will present the Mondays of Theatre, performances of shows emerged from subjects taught at the ESAD; Tertulia Thursday, with round tables and conferences on various topics related to the exhibition organized by the Institut del Teatre and the Institut Català de les Dones; and Workshop Saturdays, with practical sessions by professors from the ESAD aimed at child, adult and family audiences.
