Blaumut visit L’Auditori

The Catalan quintet present their second release, “El primer arbre del bosc”, thirteen songs with a shared theme of images and experiences expressed through poetry and abstraction

Three years after their first recording, El turista (The tourist), the band whose name is derived from the colour of a cold and silent Islandic landscape release El primer arbre del bosc (The first tree in the wood). In this self-produced release the quintet invite the listener on an intense and turbulent inward journey in which the songs possess a poetic and abstract aura that borders on surrealism.

Blaumut is a band that gained notoriety on the basis of small-scale performances in Barcelona circa 2009. El turista, published in 2012, was their introduction to a wider audience, a popularity that grew notably with the release of their single “Pa am oli i sal” (Bread, oil and salt). The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Xavi de la Iglesia, Vassili Lambrinov on violin,  Oriol Aymat on cello, Manel Pedrós on drums and Manuel Krapovickas on double and electric bass.

The band’s new release has significantly more depth and production than the first and features a pop single with mysterious lyrics. The wood, according to Blaumut, is a natural, mysterious and poetic setting, a place where one might come across characters the likes of Puck, Oberon or Titania, from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, or the Cheshire Cat, the Mat Hatter and the March Hare, from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

While the band’s fused musical style is dominated by pop and folk, there is also room for classical, baroque, jazz and singer-songwriter stylings. They will present their new release in L’Auditori on Thursday the 26th of March.
