The best in music returns to Barcelona’s parks

Twenty-six green spaces around the city will offer more than forty free concerts up until the 28th of August

Once again, summertime will be accompanied by music in Barcelona’s green spaces. At midday on the 1st of June in the Parv de l'Espanya Industrial, the Big Band Blue of the Escola de la Concepció will inaugurate the Música als parcs (Music in the parks) programme with a performance that will also serve as a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the city’s municipal music schools.

This 19th edition of Música als parcs offers a programme of forty-four free classical and jazz concerts with a predominance of young musicians and small-format performances.

The seventeen classical music concerts in the programme will include formations such as Blau-Vagalume, the KonArt Group and the Pannonica Quartet, while the eighteen jazz performances will feature trios and quartets such as the Albert Marquès Trio, the Duma Jazz 4tet and the Electric Monk Band. In addition to four performances by the Barcelona Municipal Band there will also be five guest bands and orchestras, two of which are English, two American, and the local chamber orchestra, L'Orquestra de Cambra del Centre d'Ensenyament Musical de Barcelona.

This year, the versatile pianist Albert Guinovart will be entrusted with the closing ceremony on the 28th of August at 9 pm in the Josep Maria Serra Martí gardens in the Nou Barris district, in which he will interpret his own compositions as well as pieces by Granados, Mompou and Montsalvatge.

Three months in which to enjoy music in the green spaces of the city’s newer districts.
