Beethoven and Rachmaninov in the Palau de la Música

On Saturday the 11th of October the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, with Sergei Belyavskiy on piano, will perform Rachmaninov’s “Piano Concerto No 2” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No 5”

The concert cycle Symphonics in the Palau, which began on the 27th of September last, brings the Vallès Symphony Orchestra to the stage once again. On this occasion, the young and talented Eduardo Portal has been entrusted with directing the orchestra which, on Saturday the 11th, will interpret Piano Concerto No 2, by Sergei Rachmaninov and Symphony No 5, by Ludwig van Beethoven. With Sergey Belyavskiy, the recent winner of the Audience Award at the 2014 Maria Canals International Piano Competition, as soloist, the orchestra will offer two characterful pieces in which the composers reveal many facets of their personalities.

Composed by Sergei Rachmaninov between the autumn of 1900 and the spring of 1901, Piano Concerto No 2 is a good example of the fusion of personal style, romantic roots and Slavic resonances of the composer, one of the most influential pianists of the 20th century.

The Fifth is one of the best-known of Beethoven’s pieces and was composed between 1804 and 1807. In the piece, the German composer expresses the spiritual ferment that led him to battle against misfortune and triumph in the world of music. For this reason, some biographers contend that the two presentations of the famous motif that introduces the piece symbolise Destiny knocking at the door.

The concert will take place in the Palau de la Música on Saturday, the 11th of October beginning at 7 pm. Ticket prices range from 18 to 68 euros and more information is available on the Palau website.
