Four skateboards on exhibit

Art and skateboarding, united for a charitable cause

The boards used in this urban practice become a medium for the most sophisticated artistic creations.

A skateboard board can be much more than a simple tool for moving up and down or even for performing the most spectacular acrobatics. It can become a fantastic white canvas that transforms into a work of art. You can see it at the Nau Escoleta at the Palo Alto venue where, until 26th March, you can see the exhibition "Moss Skate Art Exhibition".

We've already told you, it's a spectacular show because of the diversity of styles, the talent of the artists and the unusual conversion of a simple skateboard board into art, but, if you still need more encouragement to come and see it, we can tell you that it's a solidarity exhibition that has brought together the work of around ninety artists from countries ranging from South Africa to Venezuela, passing through the USA and Brazil, with a single purpose: to raise money to build drinking water sanitation systems to facilitate access to this essential element in communities in Esuatini (Swaziland, in English), between Mozambique and South Africa.

Painted works, some austere, others, a colour festival, sculpted tiles and many other proposals, all handmade, which will be a real surprise, are part of the exhibition and will be auctioned in order to collect as much money as possible to carry out the organisation's solidarity projects.

Don't leave yet, as there is still one more work to be seen outside the building, perhaps the most spectacular of all: a piece by the artist Joan Blavia, who has created a four-metre whale using only skateboards.

Responsible for all this is the Moss Foundation, a charitable association founded by a group of skateboarders from Melbourne in 2006 and which now has groups in Hawaii and Barcelona. They use the money they raise from auctioning the converted artwork to carry out water supply projects.

If you want to see some very unusual works of art and contribute to a solidarity project, come and see the "Moss Skate Art Exhibition" at the Nau Escoleta in Palo Alto, but first check the website for more information.
