The Almanac for curious people recovers the figure of Apel·les Mestres

The exhibition “Apel·les Mestres, artista complet i home polièdric”, located in the lobby of the Municipal Archives until 31 October, includes numerous drawings, letters, papers and documents around the Catalan artist and architect

The Almanac for curious people is a regular proposal that incorporates images of documents held by the Archives of the City of Barcelona.

These graphic documents bear some relation to a specified date, a significant holiday calendar or an anniversary of special relevance to which the file has some kind of documentary record of interest.

The Almanac of this July commemorated the 79th anniversary of the death of Apel·les Mestres, multifaceted artist belonging to a lineage closely linked to the Cathedral architects. Mestres materialized his art not only through tangible work: he did everything in his life as a celebration of creation and poetry.

The exhibition Apel·les Mestres, artista complet i home Polièdric, installed in the lobby of the Archives of the City of Barcelona until next October 31, consists of interviews with Mestres, an article that his friend, the artist Joaquim Renart, gave him months of its death, a multidisciplinary compendium of the graphic work of Mestres, known as Llibre Vert, plus naturalist drawings made in the town of Caldetes and collected in the Llibre d'Expansions, and an  intimate handwritten dedication to his wife Laura, included in the first copy of his book Semprevives (1922), among many other documents, letters and illustrations.
