The Alcools Festival brings poetry to the stage

Up until the 18th of April the Espai Brossa of the La Seca Theatre is celebrating the first edition of a festival in which contemporary authors meet on a weekly basis to recite and discuss poetry

Actress Sílvia Bell and singer-songwriter Roger Mas inaugurated the first edition of the Alcools Poetry on Stage Festival in La Seca Espai Brossa on the 10th of February last. The festival title is a reference to one of history’s greatest volumes of poetry, published by Guillaume Apollinaire in 1913 and the festival itself, directed by Andreu Gomila, will offer numerous recitals and poetry-related activities over a period of three months.

The programme for the festival, which will take place in the Palau i Fabre venue of the La Seca Theatre up until the 18th of April, also includes a generous, top-notch selection of contemporary Catalan poetry, from established poets the likes of Joan Margarit, who will offer a recital of extracts from his latest volume Des d’on tornar a estimar on the 26th of February, Feliu Formosa, who will attend the festival on the 19th and 20th of March, as well as young poets such as Martí Sales and Núria Martínez Vernis who, on the 26th, 27th and 28th of March, will debut with a performance focussing on alcohol and poetry.

The remainder of the programme for the first edition of the poetry festival will feature a number other poets of differing ages and styles such as Llucia Ramis and Andreu Gomila, on the 5th, 6th and 7th of March, Sebastià Alzamora, on the 12th, 13th and 14th of March, Teresa Colom, on the 9th, 10th and 11th of April, and David Castillo, with three recitals on the 16th, 17th and 18th of April.
