Fabra i Coats, the Born Cultural Centre and various venues throughout the Sant Andreu district will be hosting the games festival over the weekend of 12 and 13 December.
The DAU festival is getting set for its fourth edition, which will take place next weekend at Fabra i Coats, the Born Cultural Centre and various venues in Sant Andreu. The festival, organised by Oriol Comas, has established itself as a creativity festival and is making its mark on board games, as well as traditional games, role-play games, miniatures games and children's games.
DAU BARCELONA is a free festival aimed at families, but it is also a space where visitors can experience a wide range of today's games and where games clubs and experienced players, bloggers and industry professionals can meet. This year's guest author at the DAU will be Roberto Fraga, who won the prestigious Kinderspiel des Jahres 2015 award for Fila Filo.
Fabra i Coats, which continues to be the festival's main venue, will host over 150 tables with board games for visitors to discover and play. There will be games for everyone, championships, presentations, an extensive night session (Off DAU), prototypes and many more activities.
This year, the DAU has added a new venue to the festival: the Born Cultural Centre, which will host historical and miniatures games. This will house a large space devoted to Star Wars themed games.
In addition to this, the square in front of the Canòdrom Creative Research Park will be filled with Guixot de 8's gaming machines and at different venues throughout the Sant Andreu visitors can try their hand at all types of traditional games.
Like last year, DAU prizes will be awarded, on the one hand, for dedication by an individual to games culture during their lifetime and, on the other, the two most outstanding games authors of 2015 in two categories, Best Author and Best New Author, voted for by over 500 authors worldwide. The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 11 at 7 pm at the Palau de la Virreina. The event will be streamed via the Barcelona Culture website.
Also, on the days leading up to the festival, there will be a series of games-based activities at the Palau de la Virreina: a round table (Meeple Gear Solid) is scheduled for today about the similarities and differences in the creative processes in board games and video games. Tomorrow, Thursday, Núria Guzmán, psychologist and neuroscience specialist, will be opening the festival with the paper entitled, “Board games as a personal development tool.”
The DAU Barcelona Games Festival will take place over the weekend of 12 and 13 December at the Born Cultural Centre, Fabra i Coats and various venues in Sant Andreu.
The full programme is available on the DAU BARCELONA website.
