100,000 meals for our children

The charity gala returns on the 24th of September with a concert in the Gran Teatre del Liceu

On the 24th of September, coinciding with the La Mercè feast day, the Gran Teatre del Liceu will host the second consecutive edition of the charity gala “100,000 meals for our children” in aid of child nutrition, a fund-raising project aided by the sale of tickets to an all-star concert.

Performers will include the likes of ‘bolero’ singer, Moncho, Majorcan singer Maria del Mar Bonet, the folk-pop of Blaumut and the charismatic singer-songwriter Andreu Rifé. The concert will finish with the infectious energy of The Gospel Viu Choir and all takings will go to the Alianza Humanitaria para la Alimentación Infantil (Humanitarian Alliance for Child Nutrition), a Catalan Red Cross project designed to provide food for children who, by reason of their families’ socio-economic situation, are not ensured a healthy, balanced diet.

The gala is promoted by the Rotary International Club de Caldes de Montbui - Cingles de Bertí, an association of clubs that has the honour of being the world’s first voluntary services organisation, having been founded in Chicago in 1905. More than 1,200,000 volunteer members and representatives from more than 200 countries make up the 32,000 clubs that dedicate their time and resources to humanitarian projects, some of which are implemented in Catalonia, where a host of volunteers inspired by the concepts of service and solidarity offer their assistance in an effort to alleviate the lack of basic necessities present in today’s society.

On the 24th of September, then, as part of the programme of activities of the La Mercè festival, the charity gala 100,000 meals for our children will take place in the Gran Teatre del Liceu beginning at 8.30 pm. Ticket prices range from 14 to 88 € and more information is available on the Gran Teatre del Liceu website.
