Castell de Montjuïc, but also the city's bars, organise activities with dance as the protagonist.

We shouldn’t wait for the public to come and see a show… it’s the show that has to find a way to reach new audiences. With this idea in mind, the programmers of the new edition of Moujuïc, to be held on 25 and 26 May, are preparing to fill Castell de Montjuïc with shows and dance and movement proposals, but pay attention that, this year, the festival is not limited to these days, but, between 5 and 17 May, offers a sneak-peak with the proposals that form part of Moujuïc al Barri.

This is the fourth edition of Moujuïc, a dance festival with an urban dimension, which this year also incorporates other actors from the city, such as the Ateneu Popular 9 Barris and the EN RESIDÈNCIA project, in which a series of educational centres host contemporary creation processes.

It all starts in the neighbourhood, next to your house, on 5, 10, 11 and 17 May, and it’s free! So, if you’re in Guineueta Park on 5 May at 5.15 p.m., you’ll see circus artist Manel Rosés with his acrobatics and movement show Ákri. Where does the staircase go… up or down? At the El Sortidor Civic Centre, on Friday 10 May, Jaume Girbau and Carla Carissimi will be leading the Body in Dance workshop-meeting. But, have you never seen Joan Català at work? Well, this circus and movement expert will be performing Pelat, one of his latest shows, at Plaça de la Marina in Sants, on 11 May at 1 pm. Also at the El Sortidor Civic Centre, the Berta Baliu Company performs the choreography Fargar (17 May, at 6 p.m.).

This will be a small sample of what awaits you on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 at Castell de Montjuïc, where dance and acrobatics are combined in a great celebration of movement that you should not miss. Check the ticket price, as there are tickets for one of the two days or passes for both days. Among other proposals, nine shows have been programmed here which, if you haven’t seen in the last festivals in which they have been presented, you will now be able to catch them again. They are signed by such prominent names on the movement scene as Joaquín Collado, La Chachi, Joan Català and Led Silhouette in collaboration with Marcos Morau.

The Castell festival will begin on Saturday, 25th, at 5 p.m. Joaquín Collado, one of the great emerging talents in dance today, accompanied by Pol Jiménez, will perform a choreography seen at the Mediterrània de Manresa and at the Dansa Metropolitana festival: Quien baila, su mal espanta (He who dances, his evil frightens). A little later, María del Mar Suárez (La Chachi), dancer and actress, will be on stage to present a dance and song duel, Taranto Aleatorio, with Lola Dolores.

The history and political life of Brazil are the guiding thread of the show El Carnaval no és alegre – Tiny Desk by Natalia Fernandes, author of the proposal which, together with EXIT, a piece by the Circumstàncies Company that plays with the spectacularity of walls and floating doors, completes Saturday’s programme.

Return to Castell de Montjuïc the next day and, in the morning, you will find proposals for children, as well as a sample of what the students of the Institut Narcís Monturiol have done, who have worked on the proposal La escucha cae dentro, with the accompaniment of La Poderosa, with Lautaro Reyes, as part of the programme EN RESIDÈNCIA. In the afternoon, Joan Català, a master at linking movement, environment and landscape, presents Idiòfona, shortly before the artist Magdalena Garzón offers, in Verònica, ‘a tribute to the immobile beauty of life’. Pay attention to the luxury finale of this year’s Moujuïc; the proposal Los Perros, created by Led Silhouette with the collaboration of Marcos Morau (La Veronal).

If you don’t want to miss this year’s Moujuïc, start moving… to Castell de Montjuïc, but first check the website for the full programme of the event.
