The works that you can see in this exhibition are artistic creations that use contemporary language. They are works of art of our times which, nevertheless, take as their starting point some of the works in the collection of the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món. You can see the “re-enchanted” works from 22 March to 29 September.

The exhibition is entitled: “Re-enchantments. Artistes dins les col-leccions etnològiques” (Re-enchantments. Artists in ethnological collections) and brings together works by a series of current artists to whom the people in charge of the team have given access to the museum’s reserve funds, where there are works that are not normally exhibited. Each artist has chosen a piece and, based on what has been suggested to him or her or its characteristics, has created a contemporary work of art.

It is a way of putting the pieces that are kept in the museum collection into dialogue with the creators of today, always with the aim that the current look that the artists invited to this experience of “reenchantment” project serves to activate the collection and give new meanings and significance to the pieces and, as a whole, to the museum collection.

Rosa Lleó, a curator and collector from Barcelona who curated one of Eduard Escoffet’s last exhibitions (remember Howard Roark’s “Growth and Decline” at The Green Parrot and Chiquita Room?) Now, at the Ethnological and World Cultures Museum’s headquarters on Carrer de Montcada, the artists Agnes Essonti, a creator from L’Hospitalet who alludes in her works to her Afro-Spanish condition; the singer, musician, activist, architect and multimèdia Spanish-Taiwanese artist Chenta Tsai Tseng (you know him as Putochinomaricón); Italian sculptor Chiara Camoni; visual artist Domènec from Mataró; Lydia Ourahmane from Algeria, who is currently exhibiting at MACBA; Filipino painter Nikki Luna; Patricia Domínguez and her combination of ethnobotany and healing; interdisciplinary artist Regina de Miguel and the Ruta de autor collective.
