"Samaris" concert, part of "BAM - Barcelona Acció Musical"

Samaris (Reykjavik)

They were teenagers when Jófríður Ákadóttir, alias JFDR (vocals), Áslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir (clarinet) and Þórður Kári Steinþórsson (electronics) formed Samaris in 2011. Since then, they’ve become one of the most internationally acclaimed Icelandic groups, despite becoming famous with an eponymous album in which their glacial and phantasmagorical electronic music lit up with percussive beats was accompanied by lyrics taken from nineteenth-century poems in Icelandic. Their latest work, though, with which they’re returning to Barcelona, is Black Lights (2016), their third LP and the first with all the lyrics in English, which has in no way affected the evocative power of their music. Samaris are one of the groups at BAM representing Reykjavik, this year’s guest city.
