Paris, the city of light, to be guest city at La Mercè 2016

[ 29.06.16 ]

This edition of Barcelona’s annual festival will speak French and feature the best artists and activities from the French capital. This is due to the fact that the Mercè Arts de Carrer (MAC) street art festival always aims for an excellent artistic level and to attract the most talented performers from various disciplines, and Paris is a very rich source of such talent.

In order to prepare this year’s programme, La Mercè sought out a host of collaborators from the French capital, such as the street and circus art cooperative 2r2 or the prestigious theatre company Théâtre Silvia Monfort, a leading institution in the cultural life of the French capital. Or Centquatre in Paris, an artistic platform that is open to international artists and dedicated to supporting innovative creations such as those related to digital art.

Thanks to its collaboration, as well as that of other cultural agents in Paris, this year’s La Mercè will include all the ideas that have emerged and been seen on the streets of Paris. At Parc de la Ciutadella, you will be invited to participate in the large cardboard constructions by the artist Olivier Grossetête and see French hip-hop artists sing and dance. You will also be able to see Nuage, a suspended artificial cloud upon which some French acrobats will manoeuvre. At Montjuïc Castle, you will also discover several French artists adept at performing spectacular jumps, staging aerial performances or making you laugh with their music...

These are just a few of the examples of a La Mercè festival with a French accent. And it will also sing, because this year’s Barcelona Musical Action (BAM) is dedicating a featured venue to music from the French capital.

Finally, both the International Pyrotechnic Festival and Piromusical will also include a French presence, with either the participation of French pyrotechnic companies or, in the case of the Piromusical event that closes La Mercè, in a section dedicated to Parisian music and culture.
