Mapping Shows on the City Hall Façade: A Futuristic Tradition

[ 24.09.17 ]

The mapping shows on the façade of Barcelona City Hall are futuristic in style, demonstrating the application of lighting technology. However, these shows have taken place annually for some time now, becoming one of the most recent “traditions” on the programme for La Mercè. This year, the show is entitled Ritual and takes the world of dance as its theme.

Ritual is produced by UrbanScreen (Germany), who took inspiration from bodily movement to create a show that is not only lovely to see, but will also be full of emotion.

Accordingly, the stones of City Hall will come to life once more, but this year they will also dance. At least, two dancers will perform as they enact the story narrated by the show’s director, Julian Hölscher, who also created the choreography in cooperation with Till Botterweck. The performers are two local artists: Marina Rodríguez, of the contemporary dance company La Veronal; and Lluc Fruitós, one of the creative spirits behind Brodas Bros, the dance group with roots in urban culture.

What feelings will the dancers experience as they perform their choreographies? You will find out, and share their emotions, if you come to the show, which will take place at several times every night throughout the celebrations.
