Concert: "Girlpool", part of "BAM - Barcelona Acció Musical"

Girlpool (USA / punk-folk)

Turning necessity into a virtue is a highly practical talent in pop music. Cleo Tucker (guitar and vocals) and Harmony Tividad (bass and vocals) were able to make the most of the fact that it was just the two of them in Girlpool, and with the instruments they had – guitar, bass and their voices – they imbued a primitive rock with more personality than many of the quartets that operate with vocals, guitar, bass and drums, as we were able to see in their début LP, Before the World Was Big (2015). But once they'd done that, what do you do if you want to grow but not lose that special thing you’ve got? Now in their twenties, the Los Angeles due has enlarged the line-up to a trio with drums on their second album, Powerplant (2017), but they’ve managed to make sure that this new intensity hasn’t stolen the harmony between their voices. Their punk-folk now leans more to classic alternative rock, but continues to seduce with its personal colour.
