"Barcelona and Mod Culture: Brighton 64" concert, part of "Música Mercè"

Brighton 64 (Barcelona / indie pop)

Great icons of Barcelona’s Mod culture, Brighton 64 was started in 1981 by brothers Albert and Ricky Gil (yes, actress Ariadna Gil’s brothers) with Tino Peralbo on drums and Jordi Fontich on keyboards. And if a period of frantic activity that culminated in a huge concert at the Mercè in 1987 was followed by years of silence and separation, the band was reborn with the new century to show that it still had the perfect connection with its audience. Now, with a new line-up featuring Eric Herrera on drums, they’re revealing themselves to be fans and accomplices of writer Carles Zanón (new curator, by the way, of the BCNegra crime writing festival) and releasing a double album with twenty songs that, wait for it, follow a story by the author. They’re presenting it on a five-star stage where they’re bound to have one of the great successes of their lives: the Mercè.
