"Acid Arab" concert, part of "BAM - Barcelona Acció Musical"

Acid Arab (France/ Middle East traditional, electronic)

Guido Minisky and Hervé Carvalho say that what they do is not fusion, but a coming-together. Fascinated by Middle Eastern music and its complex rhythmical structures following a trip to Tunisia that changed their lives, these producers from Paris realised that the transition that these rhythms culminated in was similar to the one created by acid house. And this is where they get their name from: they were inspired to make music that is both Arabic and acid and combines the emotion and dramatic power of the East – through melodies, harmonies, songs and sounds from their own tradition – with the coldness of techno. The best of both worlds combined for the dance floor – it is after all dance music – like contemporary urban Arabic music, a tradition of which they feel very much a part.
