Parc del Turó de la Peira

Passeig de Fabra i Puig, 396 - 406

Its height and privileged location make this the only park in Barcelona with views of Collserola and the sea.

Turó de la Peira is a park for walking, along wide paths that run through it on a route principally designed to reach the summit and vantage point at a height of 140 metres.
It is also a park for admiring the view from any of its resting areas, for kids to have fun in any of the three children’s play areas, for enjoying picnics and playing cards or dominoes on the tables all around.

History

Parc del Turó de la Peira spreads over an area of 7.71 hectares that were once part of an old quarry, owned by the Marquesa de Castellbell. This was acquired by the city council during the Second Republic and officially opened as a public park in 1936, though it continued to incorporate new plots of land until 1977, when the remodelled park was officially unveiled. A further, comprehensive restoration was carried out in 2007 to improve the park’s general appearance and modernise the facilities.

Biodiversity

A large pine grove, consisting of Aleppo pines (Pinus halepensis) and stone pines (Pinus pinea), covers the whole park but is concentrated in the woodland area on the northern slope.
Besides pine trees, there are also olive trees (Olea europaea), cypresses (Cupressus sempervirens) and Chinese parasol trees (Firmiana simplex).
The sunnier slope has a more landscaped design with shrubs and more varied plants, notable among which are the groups of prickly pears (Opuntia ficus-indica).
