DAU Barcelona Prizes

DAU BARCELONA PRIZES

The Dau Barcelona Prizes have been awarded under three categories since 2013 to:

- A celebrity who has dedicated their whole life to studying, creating or disseminating games
- The best creator of the year.
- The best new creator of the year.

Best New Creator: Eugeni Castaño (Spain)
Best Creator: Markus & Inka Brand (Germany)
Special Prize for a Life of Game: Dan Glimne (Sweden)

 

During the first editions, creators voted for themselves, through a secure internet platform, with BoardGameGeek  support. A jury in Barcelona made up of people from the world of culture chose the winner of the special prize.

Certain changes have been introduced into the voting systems since 2016, to improve the Dau Barcelona Prizes:

- The Special Prize for a Life of Game is now proposed by the winners of the last two years: David Parlett and Dan Glimne.

- The Best Creator of the Year Prize is chosen by the winners of the Best Creator and Best New Creator categories from the last three editions among the creators who have had a game published between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018. The 2018 jury is made up by:

- The Best New Creator of the Year is chosen by a jury made up of Spanish game critics and bloggers (including the creators who had their first game published between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018. The 2018 jury is made up by:

Prize for Best Creator of Original Spanish-Edition Games

Hispa , the Spanish Association of Games Publishers, has been awarding a prize since 2017 for best creator of original Spanish-edition-of-the-year games, among those who have had a game published between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018. The association nominates the international jury that proposes the winner from among the finalist games chosen by a local jury of games experts. This year's international jury is made up by:

Christward Conrad, an editor at the German magazine Spielbox
Natacha Deshayes, a director at the French publishing house, Ilinx Éditions
Tanju Goban, a director of the Brussels Games Festival
Arnaud Gompertz, an editor at the Belgium magazine Plato
Maëlle Johnson, an assistant director at the Festival International des Jeux de Cannes
Greg Schloesser, a director at the North American magazine Counter
Nadine Seul, a director at the Festival International des Jeux de Cannes
