La Meri

Built in 1992 by
a women's workshop at the civic centre

Meri is a fire beast and festival entertainer. It represents a dragon and belongs to a youth centre, the Casal de Joves de la Guineueta. It is made out of fibreglass and supported by a wheeled structure, which is pushed by two people.

The group that takes it round was set up in 1992, when the Centre Cívic Torre Llobeta, in Nou Barris, gave it to the Casal de Joves de la Guineueta. It had previously been built by a women's workshop at the civic centre. Later, that colla involved Meri in more than correfocs (fire runs). It became the star of a musical firework display spiced up by a group of DJs called La Meri Parade, who still accompany the dragon today.

Every year Meri takes part in the annual festivals of La Guineueta and nearby neighbourhoods, accompanied by the group's devils and musicians.
